Franchisee FAQs

How long does the franchisee application process take?

Once we receive your completed application, we'll review the information and contact you by phone, typically within 24 hours. Once started, the franchise approval and discovery process can normally take approximately four to eight weeks. Culturally, it is essential to ensure you are the right fit for us, and that Honey Dew is the right fit for you. Financial requirements are also vital, you must be able to demonstrate sufficient net worth and the capital to fund your business objectives.

The Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD) provides you with the range of costs and expenses that you can plan to incur when developing a Honey Dew Shop. These are estimates based upon the actual experience of ourselves and our franchisees but can vary by area. Does Honey Dew assist me with any financing?

At this time we do not assist new franchisees with financing, but reserve the right to do so on a case by case basis.

Does Honey Dew sell territories?

Area Developments are an arrangement by which a qualified prospective franchisee may contract to open a group of shops within a defined geographic area. Presently, HDA will consider Area Development arrangements, but has no policies as to the terms by which such Area Developments will be granted. The terms of Area Development agreements would utilize HDA's standard form of contracts as a starting point for negotiations but all issues including pricing and exclusivity are negotiable and the price and term may vary depending on the number of shops to be developed, the area involved, the quality of any proposed sites, and the prospective franchisee's investment in the development, such as the cost of constructing a commissary facility to bake product for a group of shops.

What is the initial investment for a Honey Dew Donuts® franchise?

The estimated investment required for the first shop ranges from $94,000 - $704,000 depending on type of shop, i.e., land and building purchase, new construction, free standing or strip center sites.

What financial requirements do you require?

We require prospective applicants to have at least $100,000 in cash and a net worth of at least $400,000. Although financial requirements are important, matching the right franchisee to the right concept is even more important for us. This is why when we look for the ideal franchisee; several questions are weighed in determining if a franchise candidate is eligible to become a Honey Dew Donuts franchisee:

  • What are your motives for venturing into franchising?
  • Why are you interested in being in this business?
  • What are your long-term goals?
  • How well do you interface with people, customers, employees, community leaders?
  • What professional and life experiences have you encountered that you believe will help you in the operation of your own business?

I know of a great location for a Honey Dew Donuts® shop. What should I do?

Prospective franchisees will participate in the site approval process during and after the application process for you to become a franchisee. Who will find a site for me to develop?

Usually, you. Generally, we recommend that a franchisee contact a commercial real estate broker. Commercial real estate brokers often will know the availability of potential sites and can provide local knowledge about important topics such as zoning and new shopping centers. We will provide a copy of our recommended site criteria that you can then share with the broker. We must visit and approve the site before you move forward with signing of any lease documents. In some cases, we may already be developing a site which would be a good fit for you.

What are the franchise royalties and fees?

The current royalty fee is seven-percent (7%) of sales. This is paid weekly. In addition, each shop contributes 2% of sales, matched by us, to a special fund used to propose brand awareness through numerous advertising, marketing, and public relations channels.

What type of training will I receive?

The cost of this program is included in the initial franchise fee, Our franchisee training entails a three-week intensive in-shop training program in which franchisees are walked through every job and aspect of owning and operating a Honey Dew shop. By experiencing every role in the shop, franchisees are prepared in the skills needed to then train and manager their team.
